Maria’s List

Maria’s List is a woman-powered political communication and donor hub that invests in durable and long-term movement-building. Its donors fund the candidates and organizations working to build movement power, and our mixed-methods political research informs their funding strategies.

Our research rests on the philosophy of Deep Democracy, which emphasizes stacking contributions to movement organizations in specific geographic areas across cycles and investing in candidates up and down the ballot. These geographic areas include places where we observe the presence of demographic trends where people of color and college educated suburban voters can increase turnout of likely Democratic voters, impact election outcomes, and build power over the long term.  In our quantitative research for Maria’s List, we learn from data on past elections to develop models of future progressive electoral performance, using these insights to guide focused investments in winnable races and long-term commitments to power-building infrastructure. On the qualitative side, we track and interview candidates and organizations to inform our advice to donors.
